Throughout my career, I’ve had the great fortune to work on some truly inspiring projects, while meeting many influential and creative individuals along the way. I believe in working together to create a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. For more information about my experience, portfolio, or how we can collaborate on an upcoming project, please reach out. Much of my growth has come from working with others.
In terms of my background, I started painting and drawing in high school, with the support of a formative teacher, Virginia Carnes at the Westminster Schools of Atlanta. Virginia encouraged me to study figure drawing in New York City in the summer of 1995 which changed my perspective and skills significantly. Ever since, I have worked to develop a style that draws on legacy artists as well as lasting images that stay with me from the world around me, especially my travels. I moved to Boston after studying French and International Relations at Emory. I moved to Boston, Singapore and Paris for the better part of two decades. I studied international marketing at INSEAD, Museum Studies at Harvard, and more recently the science of art and wellness as a passion and practice.
As with any form of art that inspires me, there is an undercurrent of evolution and change that is both constant and fluid. I take ideas and inspiration from many other fields and individuals in an effort to create something that builds and expands boundaries, including the use of coding and artificial intelligence in the development of my work. While art is my meditation, joy, and a channel for a sense of self, it is also inherently influenced by those I am lucky to have in my world and life. Thank you for visiting my site, supporting my efforts, and (don’t forget!) following me online @karlacohenart.
Here I will periodically update promotional content and videos to promote what inspires and consumes my imagination and time. Other influential forces in my life are treasured individuals like Alexandre Dalliance @millinsky and Omar Shaya @omarshaya who have inspired me to take leaps I otherwise would never have considered. Lastly, my wonderful friends and family, especially my two children, unite my efforts with purpose and conviction in ways I remain steadfastly astounded -- gratefully so.
